Definition of Review Text

In contrast to hortatory exposition, review text is a type of English text used in assessing a work. Review text is usually used to review or explore a work, such as movies, comics or even anime.

Review text is also an article that contains an evaluation or review of a publication. These publications can be in the form of books, films, music, videos, and more. In this paper, of course, contains the opinion of the author which is subjective.

Usually in the review will be written the advantages or disadvantages of something that is assessed. The purpose of a text review includes criticizing or providing an evaluation of an artwork as information for the general public. The purpose of the review text is used to evaluate, review, criticize events and works of art for listeners and readers (for the general public).

Knowing as well as informing the quality, strengths, and also the shortcomings that exist in a work. In addition to conveying the author’s opinion, the purpose of published reviews is to provide information to the audience.

This is very beneficial for all three parties: the author, the audience, and the owner of the publication. Why is that? First, indirectly the author provides free reviews and can promote publications made by creators. However, if the review is negative, it could have a negative impact on the publication being reviewed.

Second, the audience’s curiosity about new information will be fulfilled. Usually we will look for reviews before enjoying a publication. For example, before watching a movie, we will first look for reviews whether the ratings are good or not.

Third, the creator will provide great benefits such as indirect promotion. Even if there are bad reviews, it may have little impact on the publications they make.

However, they can immediately see the shortcomings and can be used as input. Even for some things like food reviews from a restaurant, they can immediately correct themselves if there are unpleasant reviews. Also, can try to meet the expectations of the audience.

The things reviewed can vary, for example products from a brand, movies, music, drama, books, and others. According to BBC Bitesize, the purpose of this text is “to offer an honest critique of the object under review, and to make a recommendation to your audience”.

Its meaning is to provide honest criticism of the object under review, and to make recommendations to the audience or readers. So usually at the end of the text we can see whether the author recommends the product or work to his readers or not.

Example Sentence Review Text

Example of Review Song Text “A. Love You Like a Love Song”

“Love You Like a Love Song” by Selena Gomez

“Love You Like a Love Song” is a single from one of Disney’s shining stars, Selena Gomez. The young people who love this young singer/actress will like this song. Gomez isn’t known for having a super-strong voice or the most original arrangements, but she deserves props for this song, which mercifully tones down the standard synth-pop noise and kicks the vocal performance up a notch. The end result sounds a bit more creative and mature than the rest of the bubblegum-pop pack.

Selena’s music is always great, and her voice sounds great especially in the bridge. In the past century, people seem to believe that a love song for pop has to be acoustic with guitars, and love songs for Rap/Hip-Hop have to sound the same.

This doesn’t seem to bother Rihanna, Lady GaGa, and now Selena Gomez. To be honest in the past century “Love You Like A Love Song” has been the most original love song in years. Monotone was perfectly done here, and the Autotune was well layered. Autotune is not just robotic, Beyonce and Rihanna use it too. Must be an original love song and just a song in years. It’s about loving someone like a love song. It’s gonna use love song cliches.

Translation:

“Love You Like a Love Song” by Selena Gomez

“Love You Like a Love Song” is a single from one of Disney’s shining stars, whose name is Selena Gomez. Young people who like this young singer or actress will definitely like this song.

Gomez isn’t known for either a punchy voice or signature arrangements, but she’s a worthy medium to showcase this track, which lovingly tunes down standard synth-pop sounds and kicks the vocal performance up a notch.

The end result of this song also sounds a bit more creative and mature than other types of bubblegum-pop. Selena’s music is always great, with a signature voice that sounds great. Nowadays people seem to believe that a love song for pop should be acoustic with guitar, and a love song for Rap/Hip-Hop should sound the same.

But this seems to be ignored by Rihanna, Lady GaGa, and Selena Gomez. Actually the song “Love You Like A Love Song” has become the most distinctive love song for many years. Mono tune is perfectly done on this song, and the autotune is also good and layered, autotune isn’t just like a robot a la Beyonce and Rihanna who apply it. Must be a natural love song as well as sing a song in just a few years. This song tells about loving someone like a love song that will use clichéd love songs.

CAPTAIN PHILLIPS

Captain Phillips is an upcoming 2013 American biographical action thriller film directed by Paul Greengrass based upon the book, A Captain’s Duty: Somali Pirates, Navy SEALs, and Dangerous Days at Sea, by Richard Phillips with Stephan Tatty, and starring Tom Hanks. It is produced by Scott Rudin, Dana Brunetti, and Michael De Luca.

The film tells a biopic of merchant mariner Captain Richard Phillips, who was taken hostage for several days by Somali Pirates when the container ship Maersk Alabama which sailed from southern Oman sank along the coast of Somalia and then to Kenya was hijacked in 2009. Captain Richard Phillips (Tom Hanks), a veteran merchant mariner, still lives in his native New England, and he’s a plain-spoken family man full of anxiety about the economically bleak new world his kids are facing.

When his wife (Catherine Keener) drops him off at the airport, we can see him reverse. The film then cuts to Somalia, a land of dust and poverty, where the pirates are recruited for their mission as if they were migrant farm workers lining up to be chosen for that day’s labor.

Greengrass doesn’t have to fill in much about the violent, chaotic breakdown of Somalia to let us know that these men have little choice. The film does not generate quite the same level of excruciating suspense as some of Greengrass’ previous triumphs, but it still holds us, hostage, as it proceeds. As for the four Somali immigrants, they are remarkably effective in their first professional acting gigs.
