At the recent MediaTek Executive Summit 2020, MediaTek announced its newest 5G SoC, Dimensity 700, in the world. Compared to its brothers who do carry a higher naming, the MediaTek Dimensity 700 is aimed at devices such as more affordable 5G smartphones. MediaTek said the Dimensity 700 is targeted for mainstream class 5G smartphones priced at US $ 250 and below. In line with that, the MediaTek Dimensity 700 certainly offers more “efficient” capabilities than its brothers, including the closest SoC, the MediaTek Dimensity 700.
“Dimensity 700 is our latest MediaTek solution that answers general market demands. We truly are bringing great 5G experiences to the lives of everyone and everywhere in the world, at even more affordable smartphone prices,” said Dr. JC Hsu (Corporate VP and GM Wireless Communications Business Unit, MediaTek).
Compared to the MediaTek Dimensity 720, the difference in the MediaTek Dimensity 700 that immediately caught InfoKomputer’s attention was the GPU. MediaTek Dimensity 700 uses GPU in the form of Arm Mali-G57 MC2, while MediaTek Dimensity 720 uses GPU in the form of Arm Mali-G57 MC3. The MediaTek Dimensity 700 GPU naturally delivers lower performance than the MediaTek Dimensity 720 GPU.
In addition, MediaTek Dimensity 700 also supports video playback and video encoding only up to 2K resolution with a frame rate of 30 fps. This video capability is not as high as MediaTek Dimensity 720 which supports up to 4K resolution with a frame rate of 30 fps.
Interestingly, MediaTek’s latest 5G SoC uses a CPU with a working frequency, aka clock higher than MediaTek Dimensity 720. Both contain 8 cores consisting of 2 Arm Cortex-A76 cores and 6 Arm Cortex-A55 cores, MediaTek Dimensity 700 has a frequency works up to 2.2 GHz for the Arm Cortex-A76 instead of 2 GHz like the MediaTek Dimensity 720. As for the Arm Cortex-A55, both MediaTek Dimensity 700 and MediaTek Dimensity 720 are up to 2 GHz.
Meanwhile, for other capabilities such as main memory support, storage media, and display, the MediaTek Dimensity 700 can be said to be similar to the MediaTek Dimensity 720, as InfoKomputer says here. One exception is the camera which, although both support up to 64 MP for a single camera, the MediaTek Dimensity 700 supports only up to 16 MP + 16 MP for dual cameras with simultaneous use instead of 20 MP + 16 MP.
As for the integrated 5G modem, like his brother, MediaTek Dimensity 700 also supports the sub-6 GHz alias below 6 GHz. The modem is also equipped with MediaTek 5G UltraSave technology for energy efficiency and supports 5G CA (carrier aggregation) to increase data transfer speeds. Likewise with the technology node; MediaTek Dimensity 700 uses a 7 nm technology node.
It is believed that MediaTek will be available on the world market in the first quarter of 2021 with the Dimensity 700 SoC.
