iFixit has dissected the alias performed a teardown for the iPhone 12 mini, which is the smallest iPhone 12 series.
With a short 5.4-inch screen size, the iPhone 12 mini comes with a smaller body than the iPhone SE 2020 but the battery is actually bigger.
From the notes shared by iFixit , the iPhone 12 mini battery uses a size of 8.75 Wh, while the iPhone SE 2020 is at 6.96 Wh. Of course the other iPhone 12 is in a larger size, which is 10.78Wh for the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro.
This mini battery packs a surprising 8.57 Wh. That’s more juice than the iPhone SE 2020’s 6.96 Wh, but understandably short of the 10.78 Wh of the standard 12 it’s stacked on top of.
The next interesting thing is the camera. Even though the iPhone 12 mini has a fairly small design, the camera parts used are identical to the bigger iPhone 12 .
Apple managed to use the same hardware even though the physical sizes of the two are quite different. Even when the mini camera and the regular 12 were swapped, iFixit discovered that they both work normally.
In a more detailed breakdown of hardware, iFixit found that some of the components in the iPhone 12 mini are made like miniatures of the iPhone 12.
This is done because the room is narrow enough so that some parts must be made smaller. Examples are the Taptic Engine, speakers and magnetic spheres for MagSafe.
Maybe this is also what caused Apple to make specs in the form of MagSafe on the iPhone 12 mini which is only able to charge a maximum of 12W only, on other iPhone 12 even though it can be up to 15W.
Furthermore, iFixit also found that the design of the iPhone 12 mini is not very symmetrical in some places given the narrow space. This design is on the speaker grille on the right and left of the Lightning port.
There are still some other interesting details about the iPhone 12 mini that have been dismantled by iFixit and got a score of 6 improvements.
Some of them are the differences between the mmWave queues for US and European types, screen connector cables, and so on. Please check the full notes on the following page .
