What is a Mouse

- Move the mouse cursor – The main function is to move the mouse pointer on the screen.
- Open or run a program – After you move the pointer to an icon, folder, or click on another object or double-click that object opens a document or runs a program.
- Select – Mouse also lets you select text or files or highlight and select multiple files at once.
- Drag-and-drop – Once something is selected, it can also be moved using the drag-and-drop method.
- Hover – Moving the mouse cursor over objects with additional hover information can help find the function of each object on the screen. For example, hover over a hover link to view an example.
- Scroll – When working with long documents, or viewing long web pages, you may need to scroll up or down. To scroll, use the mouse wheel, or click and drag the scroll bar.
- Perform other functions – Many desktop mice also have additional buttons that can be programmed to carry out any function.
For example, many mice have two side buttons on the thumb of the mouse, the button closest to the palm of the hand can be programmed to return to a web page.
