Keyword Research 101

Personally I have the opinion that when we play SEO, the thing that should be done is to look for keywords with a high enough search.

Why is that? Because in my opinion, playing SEO is a war on the first page. The power of strategy. If the search volume is low, it means that we are playing in low competition. If that’s the story, we just need to play SEO in a very simple way. No need to follow this blueprint .

This means that there is nothing special in terms of my technical keyword research, because I am targeting general keywords whose searches are quite high. So yeah, just use reason and just peek at the competitors.

For the tools myself, I use 3 tools:

  • Keyword Planner
  • Ahrefs
  • Google Trends

Especially for Google Trends, I only use it to monitor new keywords. For example, the latest Gadgets, so I know the keywords about the latest gadgets and can page-one first compared to competitors.

I also usually use Google trends to find hot products in the market 😀

Keyword Mapping

I have discussed this keyword staging on the next blog, mastahseo.com. There are 2 important points that I usually do for this keyword mapping, the explanation is below:

Use of Keywords

I don’t always use every keyword for articles, there are several keywords that I use for categories or tags.

Suppose for example the keyword: Beach in Banten. I will use this kind of keywords for categories or tags (of course I also do SEO for this page). For the article, I focused on a smaller area. For example, “Sambolo Beach”, “Sawarna Beach” and so on.

Combining Keywords

Not all keywords can be combined in 1 page / article, this is a common mistake I usually find. This is related to the search intent .

For example, I often see many SEO players who use the title, “Selling the Benefits of Gout Medicine” . The use of keywords like this will make the search intent confusing, and lead to not ranking the two keywords that are targeted and combined.

Keyword Sorting

This is what I often do long before a project starts. Yes, I usually create a blog with sub-topics in sequence. I take a simple example I want to create a blog with a technology topic (general), the first thing I will do is look for sub-topics of discussion and look for the order of the keywords.

I take an example I want to discuss about Windows 10, then I will collect keywords that are related and mutually sequential. For example:

  • How to make a bootable Windows 10 with a flashdisk
  • How to Install Windows 10 with a USB Flashdisk
  • How to Activate Windows 10
  • Etc

This keyword sequence that I will later use to publish articles. So the publish must also be ordered, not jumping around.

Why is that? Because to facilitate the management of internal links .
